Where I work and German Rhubarb Strawberry Meringue Cake

4/11/2016

Cecilia from The Kitchen Garden, a blog I have been following for years,  asked us to post photos of where we work.

Picture
Most of my work is done in my kitchen where I do the cooking.
Picture
My little desk in my kitchen with some of my recipes and cookbooks
Picture
My dining- kitchen table, where I sometimes take photos.

My computer is right around the corner from my kitchen.
I saw the first strawberries at the farmer's market yesterday and some rhubarb in the store. This German Strawberry Rhubarb Meringue cake will make you happy. It is a light cake that brings out the flavors of the strawberries and rhubarb. Enjoy!

Oh yes indeed -- that gorgeous cake would make me happy! (Okay, it would if I were not allergic to eggs, but still, it's a magnificent cake.)
I very much enjoyed this look at your work-spaces. I'm downright envious of that beautiful kitchen. Mega hugs!

I am so lucky, I have cooked in this kitchen for 29 years. I am sorry you are allergic to eggs. I have to find a recipe that doesn't use eggs.

Gerlinde - you certainly have a wonderful workspace. Keep up the good work. I'd like to see a few dishes prepared because of their nutritional qualities rather than just that they look and taste good. You are very inspiring.

What a beautiful kitchen area! I love the wood and the sunlight streaming into your world. The rhubarb-strawberry meringue cake looks tempting. I have never had rhubarb but this combination seems delightful! Happy spring!

Jo, there are many cakes like this in Germany. My absolute favorite is a gooseberry meringue sheet cake. There are no gooseberries here in California.

You can do it if you stick with the recipe. I be glad to help if you have any questions. I baked a horrible cake for a friend this morning. I tried to be healthy by reducing and substituting the sugars. Yuck!

What a nice sunlit room, I love the open plan (and the Eames chairs, of course) - a great place to work, Gerlinde. I imagine the view must be fantastic, too! Great to see you made it back alright and hopefully got over the cold / flu but a nice strawberry rhubarb meringue is just the ticket, I wish I could take a bite or two right now. Looks fabulous.

Gerlinde - I have always thought that we should pick one day on which all blockers showed pictures of their kitchens! I can imagine they would range from a very tiny Parisian closet kitchen, to a huge open farm kitchen. With that be fun? The rhubarb meringue cake looks exquisite. And rhubarb is just beginning to appear in our market…
