A week in Maui

This was a particularly special trip to Maui because my niece and her husband from Germany came with us. It was a wonderful week long vacation. Hawaii has always been my favorite tropical destination. The warm trade winds greet you as soon a you exit the airplane.

A week in Maui
Cioppino
After all this traveling, I am ready to cook some food at home. Since it is crab season here in Northern California, it’s time to make my cioppino. Click here for the recipe.

If you need a more substantial meal that is absolutely delicious try my Jägerschnitzel. I just made this breaded pork cutlet with a creamy mushroom sauce and I enjoyed every bite of it.  It's the perfect meal for a rainy evening. Click here for the recipe.

For dessert, let’s have something with chocolate. It’s February after all.

This is a German chocolate walnut tart with a shortbread crust. It is a chocolate lover's delight.  Click here for the recipe.

So happy you enjoyed your trip to Hawaii Gerlinde! Can’t wait to cross that off my bucket list! Your chocolate walnut tart has stolen my heart! That would be a delicious dessert for Valentine’s Day. Hope you’re having a great week so far!

Mary Ann, the tart is good but it is not the prettiest when it comes to presentation. I made this tart years ago for my mother's birthday in Germany. Everybody loved it but all the other cakes looked so much better.

Hi Teagan, the pork cutlets are tasty but what makes them special is the sauce. Hugs to you.

So happy for your Gerlinde! A trip to Maui is just what you need. We went to Hawaii in November and it was lovely but with all this snow, sleet and lack of sunshine, we are so ready to go back. You have been cooking up a storm. Your Jägerschnitzel with the crispy crust and that sauce looks delightful. Wishing you a super week!

I've always wanted to visit Maui! I almost had the chance last year, but the trip fell through at the last minute. Bummer. This food looks phenomenal, and the photos are excellent! Great post, Gerlinde!!

Yes. Northern CA and ciopinno go hand-in-hand. I wonder if Hawaii has some sort of version... Now I want to go to Hawaii and eat cioppino! GREG

I have never seen copping in Hawaii but that doesn't mean they don't have it.

I told Bill that we MUST go somewhere warm next Jan or Feb. Maui would certainly fill that dream---it looks like you had an incredible time! P.S. Your tart and bars look fabulous!!

In Hawaii they call the people the people that escape the cold snowbirds. Tell Bill you are becoming snowbirds.

The chocolate bars are good and they keep for a week and longer if they are stored in a covered container. I like that because then I can have a bar in the afternoon for a while.

Dear Gerlinde, what a breathtaking place to visit - I would love to be able to travel to Maui. And what makes this trip all the more special was the fact that your lovely niece and her husband could join the two of you! It all sounds like you had an amazing time!
And your chocolate desserts look like quite the treat, both do!
Liebe Grüße,
Andrea (Wir sind mitten in der Karnevalssaison...)

So many recipes to try, so little time. But I shall try, I shall!
Exciting - you were in Maui at the same time we were in Kauai. Wish we could have flown a short hop and seen each other. You had more whales the week you were there - then they swam over and saw us a week later. :-)
